Aided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (J.I.C.A), "Uttar Pradesh Prosperity Forest Management and Poverty Alleviation Project for financial year 2008-09 is being executed for rooting out poverty among the population dependent upon forests and for reforms in the degenerating forest cover of the state. The main aim of this project is to replenish and manage the degenerating forest cover of the state through people's participation and increase the income capacity of the local population. This project is functional in 20 sub divisions of Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shrawasti, Balrampur, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Chitrakoot, Allahabad, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra and Chandauli Districts of U.P. These Districts have been chosen keeping in mind degenerating forests of Bundelkhand, Tarai and Vindhya areas of the state. In the year 2011-12, Rs 7989.84 lakhs, in 2012-13 Rs. 8864.00 lakh and in year 2013-14 Rs. 8105.00 lakh was the expenditure for the aforesaid project.
